"Get acquainted with No one"

Street art reinforces the finite quality of an artwork. The lifespan of this kind of art is uncertain, being exposed to outdoor elements or until they are intentionally removed. We take notice and relate to this kind of art because it is found in public spaces. More often than not there is no way to understand the motivations or who the artist behind the art is. We simply tell ourselves that its made by no one.

In "No one", street artist Lee Salvador, brings the art he usually paints on sidewalk walls onto canvas. Salvador paints pop culture icons from television —one of his main influences— in a peculiar fashion. Like most street art that are made on grey concrete walls, the works he present are made to look as if it were a piece of the wall. Unlike most street artists, Salvador is not one to work in anonymity. He makes this contradiction through the subjects of his work that are devoid of faces. The unusual circumstances of a street artist presenting his work in a gallery setting takes us, the art patron, closer to a particular "no one". Street art has been treated with neutrality within the confines of the metro. In some areas it is even encouraged to bring life and color to the highly congested urban spaces of Metro Manila.

Lee Salvador is a core member of CVTY Collective, an art collective that seeks to promotes and create street art around Metro Manila.

"No One" is Lee Salvador's second solo exhibition opening at Art Underground on August 11, Saturday at 6pm. For more information reach them at 721 0745 or 09175237463. Email artundergroundmanila@gmail.com
